Khuzestan is a province in SW of Iran, bordering on Iraq in the west and the Persian Gulf in the south. Its major cities include, Bandar Imam khomeini, Khorramshahr, Abadan and Ahvaz. It is mountainous in the east, and has a hot and dry climate. Khuzestan has enormous petroleum deposits. Bandar Imam Khomeini is connected to the Persian Gulf via Khor musa. It is one of the world's most important natural channel with a length of about 78 km. Vessels of up to 100,000 tones can pass through this channel en route to Bandar Imam Khomeini and Mahshahr. Bandar Imam Khomeini handles a variety of cargo including general cargo, bulk cargo, grain, bagged sugar, and rice. |
